Message from the Minister for Ageing |

The Australian Government recognises the very important work done by all staff working in the aged care sector. Their commitment to their work and to older Australians is admired by me and valued by the community. As the care needs of older Australians become more complex, the aged care workforce requires different and innovative levels of support, leadership and promotion of best practice throughout the residential aged care sector.
In the 2006-07 Budget, the Government committed funding of $21.6
million over four years through the Encouraging Best Practice in Aged
Care Program.

The program assists residential aged care homes to
improve the care of older Australians by defining and implementing the
most up to date evidence-based care practices and evaluating the
outcomes to support continuous care.
The Government has also provided $1.1 million over two years to develop
and maintain online clinical resources for the aged care sector.
These initiatives will benefit health professionals, aged care
providers and others involved in the care of older Australians in using
evidence-based best practice to provide better care to older patients
and aged care residents.
The Conference will provide a great opportunity for people involved in
the aged care industry to network, discuss and understand the
importance of evidence-based best practice in the care of older
Australians. I encourage your attendance at the ACEBAC Conference:
Evidence in Practice to be held in Melbourne from 26 to 28 September 2007.
